FREELANCE LOGOs

Various logos I’ve designed for freelance work.

Homeostasis Logo

Homeostasis is a company that synthesizes battery-grade graphite from atmospheric CO2.

I used muted natural tones to suggest the environmentally friendly nature of this company.

Homeostasis refers to a self-regulating process that adjusts to maintain stability. “Balanced, but in motion” was the idea behind this logo.

The design was inspired by ripples in a pond – waves radiating and eventually resting at equilibrium. The sine wave across the middle of the logo is a self-correcting function that repeats infinitely. It lends the company a “tech” feel, which is appropriate, considering the cutting-edge technology used to extract CO2.

Kaleidoco

Kaleidoco transforms AI from a transactional tool to a trusted, intelligent companion. Through augmented reality, you can view your companion, who seamlessly interacts with the objects in your world.

Interaction with your digital companion is, above all, a fun experience. Therefore, I wanted the logo to be as fun and playful as the companions themselves.

The logo mark is a simple shape inspired by a kaleidoscope. It is also the abstract overlay of three “eyes” (pink, blue, and yellow). The colors are taken directly from the CMYK color model, as a nod to how colors combine to create new colors in a kaleidoscope.

The rounded edges of the font makes it feel almost ethereal, like it is fading away. Much like the digital companions, the font does not feel grounded, but like it can change state at any instant. I backed the type with a colorful drop shadow to mirror the playfulness of the logo mark above.

Kristen Gaerlan

This is the personal logo for copywriter (and my wife) Kristen Gaerlan. She wanted a bold logo with a feminine touch.

Script typefaces can very easily trend toward the “DIY wedding aesthetic”, which try to look handwritten, but often fail to do so. However, the right script typeface can really impart a luxurious hand-lettered feel that you don’t often get with a non-script font.

I was inspired by the flowing Art-Nouveau Coca-Cola logo, a bold yet elegant design that lives among the best-ever logos. Breaking the “g” out of the circle adds a dynamism to the mark, and reflects how Kristen breaks the mold in her work.
