Sleep No More was an award-winning, immersive theater experience that told Shakespeare’s Macbeth through a darkly cinematic lens. Masked guests decided where to go and what to see, ensuring everyone’s journey was unique and each visit was different.
To celebrate the culmination of Sleep No More, we hosted three nights of parties, each one inspired by the themes of the show. For this “Apparitions” party series, I designed three posters with the intention of capturing the dark yet enticing mood of the show and impressing the fleeting nature of these parties.
Apparitions Teaser
Fortune plays a big role in Sleep No More, so I was inspired to create this custom tarot card design. While the concept is simple, I folded Easter eggs into its details (for the show’s super fans in particular).
In the corners are a paper boat, a crescent moon, a mask, and the McKittrick Hotel logo, which reference the “Apparitions” themes, plus the venue itself. The Roman numerals are the month and days of the party dates. “You Remember” is a quote from Sleep No More, etched into a ring, a key prop from the show.
Sleep No More Blast
An email sent during the theatrical run of the show. An obscured mask glares ominously over the McKittrick Hotel. Much like the show itself, I took heavy inspiration from Alfred Hitchcock, especially Psycho, in creating this poster. Designing for The McKittrick Hotel meant walking the tightrope between thriller and horror.
